Addressing Barriers to MOUD Access at Rural Community Pharmacies

Our speaker is Delesha Carpenter PhD, MSPH, Professor and Executive Vice Chair, Division of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy, UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. This presentation discusses barriers to medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) access at community pharmacies, including how this issue affects members of rural communities.

Delesha Carpenter PhD, MSPH

Delesha Carpenter PhD, MSPH

Delesha Carpenter is Professor and Executive Vice Chair of the Division of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy at the Eshelman School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her educational background includes clinical training in respiratory therapy and public health. She is interested in increasing pharmacist provision of harm reduction services, particularly in rural areas. Three of her current projects focus on increasing MOUD and naloxone access in rural community pharmacies. She has worked with teams of pharmacists and other stakeholders to develop five trainings for pharmacists, including buprenorphine and naloxone trainings. She has authored more than 165 peer-reviewed publications and has received more than $6 million in funding from government agencies, private foundations, and industry to support her research.
